Languages that have little or no technological support are called “under-resourced languages”.

SIGUL intends to bring together a number of professionals involved in the development of language resources and technologies for under-resourced languages.

Its main objective is to build a community that not only supports linguistic diversity through technology and ICT but is also committed to increase the chances of survival of the lesser-resourced languages (whether they are regional, minority or endangered) in the digital world through language and speech technology.

SIGUL has been set up by the ELRA Language Resources Association (ELRA) and the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA).
